RAMAPOO SHOOTING RANGE – RANGE RULES

 

 

1.         All persons must sign logbook upon entering facilities.

2.         On Monday and Tuesday nights, Club opens at 7:15 PM, shooting will commence at 7:30 PM and end at 10:00 PM or at the Range Officer’s discretion.  When open, Sunday afternoon Range hours are 1:00 to 4:00 PM unless closed earlier at Range Officer’s discretion.

3.         All persons must sign-up for a port if relays are being run (more than 9 shooters).  Relays are run at half-hour intervals including five minutes for clean up.

4.         Only one person to a port at a time, except those receiving instructions.

5.         All instruction to be provided by NRA Certified Instructors from Ramapoo Rifle & Revolver Club only.

6.         All new visitors wishing to shoot must have a range safety checkout by the Range Officer or Ramapoo Instructor irrespective of whether they have a pistol permit. They will then be issued a Range Safety Checkout card for use in future visits.

7.         Minimum shooting ages and conditions are as follows:

q      Pistols or revolvers – minimum 21 years of age with either:

·       a current pistol permit and Range Safety Checkout by a Range Officer or

·       a Range Safety Checkout by a Range Officer and supervision by a pistol permit holder

q      Unattended Rifle shooting – minimum 19 years of age being an active member of Ramapoo Rifle & Revolver Club or holding a Ramapoo Range Safety Checkout Card.  Port lower doors must remain closed during shooting.

q      Attended Rifle shooting – children active in the Friday night Junior program (minimum 10 through 18 years of age) holding a Ramapoo Range Safety Checkout Card can shoot rifle during normal Range hours.  They must be supervised by a qualified adult (a Ramapoo member 21 years or older or an adult 21 years or older holding a Ramapoo Range Safety Checkout card).  Port lower doors must remain closed during shooting.                                            

q      All other children (ages 10 through 18) must be directed into the Friday night Junior program until issued a Ramapoo Range Safety Checkout Card by a leader of the Junior program.  They will then be eligible for normal Range hour rifle shooting as specified above.

8.         All shooters will remain behind the firing line at all times except when given the command to pick up brass in front of firing line.  Spectators are not allowed in the range during shooting.

9.         At the command to CEASE-FIRE, all shooters will immediately stop shooting, make their firearm safe (unload firearms, cylinders open, slides locked back, magazines removed), lay the firearm down on the bench and step back from the port.

10.     All firearms on benches not being fired must be unloaded with actions open.

11.     The muzzle of any firearm must be kept pointed down range at all times.  Firearms are not to be brought down on targets from an overhead position.

12.     In case of a hang-fire or misfire, keep muzzle pointed downrange and wait 30 seconds before opening firearm.

13.     In case of a mild or unusual report, open and unload firearm and check bore for obstructions before continuing.

14.     Ear and eye protection is mandatory.  The Club/Corporation will not be responsible for injuries resulting in failure to do so.

15.     Only pistol calibers up to .45 and .22 caliber rifle may be fired. .  Magnums, jacketed and semi-jacketed ammo may only be fired by members on members’ night or Sundays or in programs approved by the Range Officer for the program.  Tracers and armor piercing are prohibited.

16.     The Range Officer reserves the right to inspect all ammunition and firearms and refuse use of same.

17.     Up to six (6) rounds maximum may be loaded at a time.

18.     The Range Officer must approve targets other than regulation type NRA targets or animal silhouettes.  All targets must be totally down range during shooting.

19.     Rapid fire shooting is prohibited, other than NRA National Match timing of 5 shots in 10 seconds or as approved by a Range Officer for a specific program or event).

20.     Exposed carry on your person is prohibited except by uniformed Ridgefield Police Officers or the Range Officer.

21.     No smoking, food or beverages are allowed on the range.

22.     The consumption of alcohol and/or drugs on the premises is prohibited.

23.     Anyone, who in the opinion of the Range Officer, appears to be impaired will be asked to leave.

24.     Obey all commands and safety instruction of the Range Officer at all times.  Failure to do so will be grounds for permanent expulsion.

25.     The Range Officer’s decisions are FINAL !
